Cruise Tip #11 - Traveling In A Big Metal Box & Door Decorations

ree

Ahoy, fellow seafarers and magnetic marvels! Today, we embark on a hilarious journey into the world of cruise ship staterooms, where creativity, magnet hooks, and decorated doors collide. Join me as we delve into the secrets of life within a big metal box and explore the vibrant and artistic world beyond the stateroom door.

Get some magnetic hooks and the little magnets with stickiness on one side, and set them aside for your cruise. Walmart and Hobby Lobby carry these.

Picture this: you step into your cozy cruise ship stateroom, filled to the brim with excitement, anticipation, and a faint whiff of ocean breeze. As you look around, you notice one thing dominating the room—metal, glorious metal! It’s as if the ship’s designers went overboard (pun intended) with their love for all things magnetic.

Now, you might be thinking, “What could possibly be so amusing about a room full of…

Cruise Tip #10 - Cruising Through Time Zones

ree

Cruising offers an incredible chance to relax, explore new places, and enjoy life at sea — but one thing many people don’t realize until they’re onboard is how different “ship time” can be from the time onshore. It’s a small detail that can lead to confusion if you don’t pay attention, especially when you’re heading off the ship to explore a port.

Imagine you’re on a cruise, visiting beautiful destinations, taking in the ocean views, trying new foods, and enjoying the entire experience. Everything feels simple and easy until you step off the ship for an excursion or spend the day exploring a port. Suddenly, the difference between the ship’s official time and the local time onshore becomes very noticeable.

Cruise ships often run on “ship time,” which may not match the local time in the ports you visit. Even if you adjust your watch to the local time, the…

Cruise Tip #9 - Managing Your Mobile Device at Sea

ree

To ensure a financially smooth voyage and uninterrupted experience, we strongly recommend placing your mobile phone in Airplane Mode immediately upon boarding.

While at sea, your mobile device enters a non-standard service environment. Cellular networks are terrestrial (land-based), meaning they are generally unavailable once the ship moves a few miles offshore.

📵 The Risk of Roaming Charges

When standard cell phone service is unavailable, your device will automatically search for and connect to specialized maritime cellular networks provided via satellite, often referred to as "Cellular At Sea" services.

  1. High-Cost Roaming: Using these satellite-linked networks—even simply for background data usage, checking voicemail, or receiving texts—triggers extremely high international roaming charges. These charges are often significantly more expensive than standard international roaming rates and are not covered by domestic service plans or even most international add-ons.

Cruise Tip # 8 - Cruising With A Side Of Laughter: Embrace The Unexpected!

ree

Hey there, fellow cruisers! Are you ready to embark on a nautical adventure filled with sunny skies, crystal-clear waters, and more buffet options than you can shake a fork at? Well, before you set sail, we have some pearls of wisdom to share with you. So grab your life jackets and let’s dive right in!

Don’t Pack an Uptight Attitude: Picture this: you’re lounging on a deck chair, sipping a fruity beverage with a little umbrella, and enjoying the soothing ocean breeze. Sounds idyllic, right? But remember, not everything may go according to plan. Don’t let a minor hiccup ruin your entire cruise experience. So leave your uptight attitude at the gangway and bring along your sense of humor instead!

Things Can Change: Ah, the whims of Mother Nature! Just like your mood when you run out of sunscreen, the weather can be unpredictable. You might have imagined endless days…

Great write up! Amen to the attitude

Beach Towels

ree

Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen and bathing suits, but leave those beach towels at home! All of the big mass market cruise lines provide beach towels for you to use on the ship and during your shore days. Just remember that if you try to take them home with you or forget them on shore days, you’ll be charged.

Awesome

Hair Dryer

ree

Leave your blow dryer at home! Unless you have hair down to your toes or a secret love affair with your blow dryer, you won’t need it on your cruise.

Most cruise ships come with in-room dryers that will get the job done – even if they don’t quite measure up to the one you have at home. So save yourself the trouble and the extra baggage – leave the blow dryer behind!

Flying In On Cruise day

ree

You have saved up money, you paid for your cruise, you and your friends are excited, and the last thing you want to do is miss the boat! That’s why it’s best not to fly on the day your cruise sails – it’s just too risky! Even if your flight is on time, there’s always the potential for delays, cancellations, and other unexpected issues. So if you want to make sure you’re not left standing on the dock while your cruise ship sails away without you, it’s best to avoid the drama and fly at least a day before your cruise departure. That way, you can enjoy your vacation the way it was meant to be – stress-free!

We have seen where it was sunny in Austin, Texas, and not a cloud in the sky, and the flight to Miami was canceled on the day of the cruise because the…

So true! Lots of good reasons to fly in the day before embarkation.

How Not To Get Lost On Norwegian Encore

ree

Fish Swim Forward – When in the halls of a mega cruise ship, it is very easy to get turned around. There are no windows in most halls and you don't know which way is which. On Norwegian ships, just look down. They have little fish on the carpets. The fish always swim forward or towards the front of the ship.
