Cruise ships have a key card holder right inside the door that once you put your room key in, the lights and AC will come on. Your card must be in the holder for the lights and AC to work in the room. One mistake that many passengers make is using their room key card to operate the light switch in their room. This can be very dangerous as you might forget it in the room or the room attendant might take it by mistake. Therefore, it is important to remember that your room key card should not be used on the cruise ship for any purpose other than unlocking your cabin door. (and to show for your drink package and purchases)Always bring a card that you don't mind losing to keep your lights and AC on. A good example would be a store or gas savings card.

Fish Swim Forward – When in the halls of a mega cruise ship it is very easy to get turned around. There are no windows in most halls and you dont know which way is what. On Norwegian ships, just look down. They have little fish on the carpets. The fish always swim forward or towards the front of the ship.

You have saved up money, you paid for your cruise, you and your friends are excited, and the last thing you want to do is miss the boat! That’s why it’s best to not fly on the day your cruise sails – it’s just too risky! Even if your flight is on time, there’s always the potential for delays, cancellations, and other unexpected issues. So if you want to make sure you’re not left standing on the dock while your cruise ship sails away without you, it’s best to avoid the drama and fly at atleast a day before your cruise departure. That way you can enjoy your vacation the way it was meant to be – stress-free!
We have seen where it was sunny in Austin, Texas, and not a cloud in the sky, and the flight to Miami was canceled on the day of the cruise because the plane was grounded in New York due to bad weather there. Why even risk it? Plus, I love getting up in the morning of my cruise and already being in the state I am cruising from. It makes the day so much better not having to rush and get from the airport to the cruise port where things will be hectic anyways. Its nice to feel like I am already on vacation and can take my time.

Leave your blow dryer at home! Unless you have hair down to your toes, or a secret love affair with your blow dryer, you won’t need it on your cruise. Most cruise ships come with in-room dryers that will get the job done – even if they don’t quite measure up to the one you have at home. So save yourself the trouble and the extra baggage – leave the blow dryer behind!

Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen and bathing suits, but leave those beach towels at home! All of the big mass market cruise lines provide beach towels for you to use on the ship and during your shore days. Just remember that if you try to take them home with you or forget them on shore days, you’ll be charged – so don’t let your towel go walkabout!

Hey there, fellow cruisers! Are you ready to embark on a nautical adventure filled with sunny skies, crystal-clear waters, and more buffet options than you can shake a fork at? Well, before you set sail, we have some pearls of wisdom to share with you. So grab your life jackets and let’s dive right in!
1. Don’t Pack an Uptight Attitude: Picture this: you’re lounging on a deck chair, sipping a fruity beverage with a little umbrella, and enjoying the soothing ocean breeze. Sounds idyllic, right? But remember, not everything may go according to plan. Don’t let a minor hiccup ruin your entire cruise experience. So leave your uptight attitude at the gangway and bring along your sense of humor instead!
2. Things Can Change: Ah, the whims of Mother Nature! Just like your mood when you run out of sunscreen, the weather can be unpredictable. You might have imagined endless days of sunbathing, but hey, a little rain never hurt anyone. Pack that raincoat, rock those flip-flops in puddles, and show the clouds who’s boss! Adaptability is the name of the game, and being prepared for any weather ensures you’ll make the most of your journey.
3. Sea Conditions in Flux: The ocean is a fickle friend, and sea conditions can sometimes resemble a dance party gone wrong. Waves might decide to show off their moves, leaving your tummy feeling like it’s doing the Macarena. Embrace it! Channel your inner surfer dude or dudette and ride those waves. Who needs a treadmill when you can have a spontaneous workout session just by walking down the hallway?
4. Allow for Change: Remember, life is a series of plot twists, and your cruise is no exception. Maybe the captain decides to change the itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances. Instead of grumbling, think of it as a chance to explore uncharted waters! A detour can lead to unexpected discoveries—like that hidden beach or the little local shop that sells the most mind-blowing ice cream you’ve ever tasted. Embrace the change, and let it be the wind in your sails!
5. Adventure Awaits: Above all, keep your spirit of adventure alive! Every twist, turn, or unexpected event is an opportunity for a memorable story. Did your dining room table magically transform into a stage for a spontaneous dance-off? Did you get mistaken for a celebrity by an enthusiastic crew member? Roll with it and let the laughter be your compass. After all, the best tales to share with friends involve unexpected twists and belly-aching laughter!
So there you have it, cruising comrades! As you set sail on the adventure of a lifetime, remember to pack your open mind, your laughter, and a dash of flexibility. Life is too short to be all rigid and serious. Embrace the changing tides, and let the voyage be your guide.
And don’t forget to save a piece of that delicious cruise ship pizza for your friends back home!

🎙️ Ladies and gentlemen, this is your witty and whimsical cruise director, Melissa speaking. On behalf of the entire crew, I’d like to extend a warm welcome and a hearty laugh to each and every one of you. As we navigate the hilarious waters of maritime adventures, please allow me to humorously explain the reasons why we highly recommend putting your phone in airplane mode during our seafaring escapade.
📵 Picture this, my friends: you’re on deck, savoring the salty breeze and gazing at the endless expanse of the ocean. Your phone, unaware of the absence of cell phone towers in the middle of the sea, decides to conduct its own invisible orchestra, desperately searching for a signal. Alas, all it finds are the whispers of roaming charges lurking beneath the waves. Suddenly, your laughter turns to astonishment as your phone mutinously plots against your wallet.
💸 Ah, the treacherous realm of roaming fees! It’s like an invisible kraken that lies in wait, ready to strike the unsuspecting traveler with a vengeance and devour your hard-earned doubloons. If your phone is not on airplane mode, those roaming charges can sneak up on you faster than a seagull stealing your French fries. Trust me, it’s a financial whirlpool you’d rather avoid! Remember, we are traveling outside the United States.
🚢 But fear not, my intrepid travelers, for there is a simple solution to this cellular conundrum—airplane mode! With a flick of your finger, you can transform your phone into a seafaring champion, impervious to the siren calls of roaming fees. By embracing this mode, you not only protect your wallet but also liberate yourself from the chains of constant connectivity, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the enchanting wonders of life at sea.
⚓️ So, my dear passengers, as we embark on this journey together. Remember, switching your phone to airplane mode is not just a suggestion—it’s a lifesaver for your finances. Spare yourself from the sea monsters of roaming charges, and instead, revel in the joy of being present in the moment, surrounded by breathtaking sunsets, and creating precious memories without interruptions.
🎭 This announcement has been brought to you by Melissa, your purveyor of laughter and protector of wallets. May your voyage be filled with laughter and financial serenity!

Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Are you ready for an amusing tale about the quirks of time aboard a cruise ship? Buckle up (or, should I say, anchor down) as we embark on a voyage through the perplexing world of cruise ship time versus shore time.
Picture this: You’re on a fantastic cruise, sailing through sparkling waters, soaking up the sun, and exploring exotic ports of call. Everything is going swimmingly until you decide to venture off the ship for an exciting shore excursion. Little did you know that time aboard a cruise ship has a mind of its own, leading to hilarious mix-ups and a perpetual feeling of déjà vu.
You see, my dear readers, cruise ships operate on something called “ship time,” a parallel universe where watches seem to have a mischievous agenda of their own. While you may have diligently adjusted your watch to the local time zone at the port of call, your beloved cruise ship chooses to maintain its own cosmic timeline, a whimsical blend of convenience and chaos.
So, let’s dive into the chronicles of cruising through time zones with a side dish of uncontrollable laughter:
1. “Wait, didn’t we just do that?” 🤔 One minute you’re onshore, exploring a vibrant market, tasting local delicacies, and buying souvenirs for your envious friends back home. Suddenly, you check your watch and realize you have to be back on the ship… wait, wasn’t the ship time different? Cue the frenzied sprint back to the port, dodging confused fellow passengers while frantically shouting, “Time’s playing tricks on us!”
2. “Did we invent a time machine?” Imagine the delight of being able to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice in one night! While docked in a time zone ahead of your home country, you find yourself in a curious time warp. As the clock strikes midnight onshore, fireworks explode, and champagne corks pop. Then, a few hours later, your ship’s festivities begin, leaving you with a hilarious case of “New Year’s déjà vu.” Time travel has never been so entertaining!
3. “Missing in time, found in laughter” Ah, the classic tale of the bewildered traveler who forgot the golden rule: always be back to the ship using the ship’s time. Picture this: you’re lost in a bustling bazaar, mesmerized by the vibrant surroundings, when you suddenly realize you’ve become an unwitting time traveler, caught in a perplexing conundrum. Desperately, you search for a way back to your floating haven, your fellow passengers waving you goodbye as the ship sails into the sunset. Fear not, for this is the moment where laughter becomes the ultimate lifesaver.
4. “Jet Lag on the Seven Seas” While jet lag is often associated with long flights, who knew it could also manifest itself in the middle of a serene cruise? As you sail from one time zone to another, your sleep patterns and meal schedules get tossed into a time blender. You might find yourself ordering pancakes at 2 am or snoozing away in the middle of a lively dance party. Embrace the madness, my friends, and remember to blame it all on the curious concept of “ship time.”
In conclusion, dear readers, the quirks of cruise ship time versus shore time provide endless entertainment and memorable moments. So, the next time you embark on a maritime adventure, keep your watch synchronized with the ship’s time, embrace the inevitable laughter-inducing mishaps, and revel in the unique privilege of living in multiple time zones simultaneously. Bon voyage, time travelers!

Ahoy, fellow seafarers and magnetic marvels! Today, we embark on a hilarious journey into the world of cruise ship staterooms, where creativity, magnet hooks, and decorated doors collide. Join me as we delve into the secrets of life within a big metal box and explore the vibrant and artistic world beyond the stateroom door.
Remember when we mentioned the box you will need for stuff on your cruise? Today we start to put that to work. Get some magnetic hooks and the little magnets with stickiness on one side and throw them in your box. Walmart and Hobby Lobby carry these.
Picture this: you step into your cozy cruise ship stateroom, filled to the brim with excitement, anticipation, and a faint whiff of ocean breeze. As you look around, you notice one thing dominating the room—metal, glorious metal! It’s as if the ship’s designers went overboard (pun intended) with their love for all things magnetic.
Now, you might be thinking, “What could possibly be so amusing about a room full of metal?” Well, my friends, let me tell you. Your magnet hooks scattered across the walls are a game-changer. They might seem insignificant at first, but trust me, they have the power to transform your vacation experience into a circus of wacky shenanigans.
If you have kids, bring a small whiteboard with magnets on the back—this is the key to unlocking a world of communication and mischief. You can leave messages for each other about your whereabouts on the ship, but why stop there? Why not take advantage of this prime opportunity to showcase your artistic prowess?
Imagine the delight on your loved ones’ faces when they wake up to find a magnificent masterpiece adorning the stateroom wall. You can create a family portrait, complete with stick figure renditions of your travels made by mom and dad. Just be prepared for potential giggling fits and uncontrollable laughter during the artistic process.
But the fun doesn’t end with whiteboard masterpieces. The magnet hooks offer endless possibilities for organizing your space. You can hang your beach towels, swimsuits, and hats on the walls, creating a colorful tapestry of vacation essentials. Need to dry your swimsuit? Simply attach it to a hook and let the gentle breeze from the air conditioning work its magic. Who needs fancy drying racks when you have magnetic marvels?
Now, let’s venture beyond the confines of our metal sanctuary and explore the enchanted realm of decorated doors. As you traverse the long corridors of the cruise ship, you’ll notice a sea of identical doors, like a maze designed to baffle even the most experienced sailors. But fear not, for the ingenious minds of cruisers have found a solution—decorated doors!
Decorating the outside of your stateroom door has become a popular trend among cruise ship enthusiasts. It not only adds a personal touch to your temporary abode but also makes it easier to spot your door amidst the endless rows of uniformity. Plastic-covered photos with magnets on the back, displaying precious memories of loved ones or epic vacation moments, serve as door ornaments that evoke warmth and nostalgia.
But the door decorating frenzy doesn’t stop there. Some cruisers go all out, unleashing their inner Picasso with colorful streamers, twinkling lights, and even custom-made signs. You might stumble upon doors adorned with pirate themes, tropical motifs, or humorous quotes that bring a smile to your face as you wander the corridors.
And let’s not forget the pièce de résistance—the whiteboard on the outside of the stateroom door. It’s like having a communal message board for the entire ship! Leave cheerful greetings, witty remarks, or clever hints about your whereabouts for friends and family to discover. Who needs social media when you can engage in good old-fashioned door-to-door banter?
As you can see, my magnetic mates, a cruise ship stateroom is more than just a metal box—it’s a canvas waiting to be transformed into a masterpiece. So, embrace the power of magnets, unleash your artistic flair, and join the vibrant community of door decorators on the high seas. Let your creativity set sail and make your stateroom door a beacon of individuality in a sea of sameness.
Remember, on a cruise, the journey is just as important as the destination, and the little moments of joy and camaraderie can turn an ordinary trip into an extraordinary adventure.
So, grab your magnet hooks, gather your memories, and let the door decorating extravaganza begin!

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting and memorable experience. From exploring new destinations to indulging in delicious cuisine, a cruise vacation offers a plethora of delights. To ensure a smooth and stress-free start to your journey, it is crucial to have an embarkation day bag. This handy bag contains essential items that will enhance your comfort and convenience throughout the embarkation process.
In this post, we will discuss why having an embarkation day bag is essential and provide a comprehensive list of items to include, from swimwear to medications.
1. Streamlined Check-In Process: Embarking on a cruise involves various steps, including check-in, security procedures, and luggage handling. Having an embarkation day bag allows you to keep your important belongings with you, eliminating the need to search through larger suitcases. This streamlined approach ensures a quicker check-in process, allowing you to start enjoying your cruise sooner.
2. Swimwear for Immediate Poolside Fun: One of the first things most cruisers want to do upon boarding is to hit the pool deck and soak up the sun. Packing your swimwear in your embarkation day bag enables you to dive straight into the water without having to wait for your luggage to be delivered to your stateroom. Remember to pack a cover-up or a lightweight towel to complement your swimwear. However, beach and pool towels will be provided for you by the cruise line and are not needed to be brought onboard. They take up too much space in your luggage.
3. Essential Medications and First Aid Supplies: It is crucial to carry any necessary medications in your embarkation day bag, especially if they require regular dosing or are vital for your well-being. By having your medications easily accessible, you can adhere to your schedule and avoid any inconvenience. Additionally, including basic first aid supplies like adhesive bandages, pain relievers, and antiseptic wipes ensures you are prepared for minor emergencies.
4. Documentation and Identification: Never underestimate the importance of carrying your travel documents and identification in your embarkation day bag. Include your passport, cruise tickets, boarding passes, and any necessary visas or permits. Keeping these items close at hand ensures a smooth embarkation process and avoids the stress of searching for them amidst your other belongings.
5. Essential Toiletries: Although your stateroom will provide basic toiletries, having a few essential items in your embarkation day bag can be handy. Pack travel-sized items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, facial wipes, and hand sanitizer. These items can be useful during the embarkation process and will come in handy if you need to freshen up before your luggage arrives.
6. Entertainment and Electronic Devices: To make your embarkation day more enjoyable, consider including entertainment options in your bag. This may include a book, a tablet, or a portable music player. Additionally, don’t forget to pack charging cables for your electronic devices to ensure they remain powered throughout the embarkation process.
7. Snacks and Water Bottle: Embarkation day can be busy, and it’s common to feel hungry or thirsty while waiting in lines or exploring the ship. Pack some light snacks like energy bars, nuts, or dried fruit to keep hunger at bay until you settle into your cruise routine. A reusable water bottle is also a great addition to your bag, allowing you to stay hydrated throughout the embarkation process and beyond.
An embarkation day bag is a must-have for any cruise traveler. By packing essential items such as swimwear, medications, documentation, toiletries, entertainment, and snacks, you can start your cruise adventure smoothly and comfortably.
Remember, the goal of your embarkation day bag is to make your experience hassle-free and enjoyable from the moment you step on board. So, pack wisely and get ready to set sail on an incredible vacation!

Are you planning a vacation with us on a closed loop cruise and wondering if you need a passport? The answer is no, technically you don’t need one. You can travel with a driver’s license and an original copy of your birth certificate with the raised seal. However, it’s strongly recommended to have a valid passport when embarking on a closed loop cruise, especially if you want to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.
In this article, we’ll delve into what a closed loop cruise is, explain why a passport is not required but still advisable, provide examples of situations where a passport may be necessary, and discuss the current wait times for passport applications.
Understanding a Closed Loop Cruise: Before we dive into the passport requirements, let’s first define what a closed loop cruise entails. A closed loop cruise refers to a voyage that starts and ends at the same U.S. port. These cruises typically sail to nearby destinations, such as the Caribbean, Mexico, or Canada, without making any stops at international ports other than the country of embarkation. Essentially, closed loop cruises allow passengers to return to their original port of departure without requiring a passport.
Passport Not Required, but Recommended: While it’s true that a passport is not mandatory for closed loop cruises, having one is highly recommended. Why? Because unforeseen circumstances can arise, such as a medical emergency or an unexpected change in travel plans, that may necessitate you to disembark at a foreign port. If you don’t have a passport, you might face challenges re-entering the United States, and the process can be complicated and time-consuming.
Situations Requiring a Passport: There are several scenarios where having a passport becomes crucial during a closed loop cruise:
1. Medical Emergencies: In case of a medical emergency that requires immediate evacuation, you may need to disembark at the nearest foreign port. Having a passport will facilitate re-entry into the United States afterward.
2. Missed Departure: If you miss the ship’s departure and need to catch up with the cruise at a different port, having a passport will be necessary for entry into that country and rejoining the ship.
3. Unforeseen Itinerary Changes: Sometimes, due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, a closed loop cruise may deviate from its planned itinerary and make an unexpected stop at an international port. A passport would be required for you to disembark and participate in any activities at that destination.
4. Flight Connections: If your closed loop cruise involves a flight connection at an international airport, having a passport is essential for seamless travel between countries.
Passport Application Wait Times: Obtaining a passport can take time, so it’s essential to plan ahead. Currently, passport application processing times have experienced significant delays due to increased demand and other factors. The U.S. Department of State suggests applying for a passport at least six months before your intended travel date. By doing so, you can avoid unnecessary stress and ensure your passport is ready well in advance.
While a passport is not mandatory for a closed loop cruise, it’s highly recommended for a variety of reasons. It provides peace of mind, allowing you to handle unexpected situations that may arise during your trip. Whether it’s a medical emergency, missed departure, itinerary changes, or flight connections, having a passport ensures a smoother re-entry process into the United States. With the current delays in passport processing times, now is the ideal time to apply for or renew your passport to avoid last-minute complications.
Remember, it’s better to be prepared and have your passport ready, even if you don’t anticipate needing it during your closed-loop cruise.

Ahoy there, adventurous landlubbers! So you’ve embarked on a marvelous cruise ship journey, and the time has come to disembark for a day of beachside bliss, retail therapy, or thrilling shore excursions. But wait, before you rush to the gangway with reckless abandon, let’s talk about the essential items you should pack for these exciting escapades. Fear not, my fellow cruisers, for I have compiled a list that will not only ensure you have a blast but also spare you the wrath of towel-related expenses. Pack your bags and get ready for a laughter-filled voyage through the must-haves for your onshore adventures!
1. Beach Day Extravaganza: When the sun beckons and the sound of crashing waves lures you, it’s time for a beach day extravaganza! Here’s what you should pack (apart from your enthusiastic beach vibes, of course):
• Sunscreen: Defend your delicate skin from the wrath of the sun and avoid looking like a lobster dinner.
• Sunglasses: Shield your peepers from the sun’s rays while maintaining that effortlessly cool beachgoer aesthetic.
• Flip-Flops or Sandals: Walking on the scorching sand can turn your toes into a summer BBQ. Protect them with the beach’s unofficial uniform.
• Hat: No, not just any hat, but one that screams “vacation mode.” Find a stylish topper that keeps your face shaded and your selfie game strong.
• Water Bottle: Hydration is key to surviving a day of sun-soaked fun. Stay refreshed and avoid becoming a shriveled-up sailor.
• Snacks: A day on the beach demands sustenance. Pack some light snacks like fruit, chips, or even a sandwich to fuel your adventures.
•
Remember, the cruise line has your back in the towel department, so no need to pack those. Just make sure you bring back your borrowed towel, or they might just add it to your tab! You don’t want to swim your way into unexpected expenses, matey!
1. Shopping Spree Delight: For those with a penchant for retail therapy, a day of shopping ashore is like walking into Aladdin’s cave. But hold your credit cards, there are a few essentials to consider:
• Comfortable Shoes: Shopping involves long walks, aisle exploration, and potential sprinting to snag the best deals. Opt for comfy footwear that won’t leave you crying for mercy.
• Reusable Shopping Bag: Save the environment and your wallet by bringing a reusable bag for all the souvenirs, treasures, and spontaneous purchases you’ll inevitably accumulate.
• Wallet/Travel Money: Remember to bring your “I’m a savvy shopper” funds. Leave behind the treasure map; no pirate chests full of gold required.
• Portable Charger: Nothing is more devastating than your phone dying right as you’re about to document your fabulous finds. Keep that Instagram story game going strong with a trusty portable charger.
• Sense of Humor: Shopping adventures can get wild, my friend. Keep a sense of humor handy for those moments when you accidentally knock over a display or get into a dressing room mix-up. Laughter is the best currency!
1. Shore Excursion Thrills: For those seeking thrilling adventures and unforgettable experiences, shore excursions are the ultimate ticket to excitement. Don’t forget to pack:
• Comfortable Clothing: Dress appropriately for the adventure at hand, be it hiking, zip-lining, or swimming with dolphins. Remember, style doesn’t matter when you’re having the time of your life.
• Waterproof Camera: Capture your daring escapades without worrying about the elements. A waterproof camera or a sturdy protective case for your phone will do the trick.
• Medications and First Aid Kit: Just in case you end up bruised, battered, or suffering from a sudden case of motion sickness, bring your trusty meds and a compact first aid kit to keep your crew in shipshape condition.
• Sense of Adventure: Lastly, but most importantly, bring along your unbridled spirit of adventure. Embrace the unexpected, laugh at mishaps, and make memories that will forever be etched in the annals of your cruising chronicles.
•
Conclusion: Whether you’re planning a sun-soaked beach day, an epic shopping spree, or an adrenaline-fueled shore excursion, packing the right items can make all the difference. Just remember, the cruise line has your back when it comes to beach towels, but be sure to return them to avoid a surprise charge.
With this humorous packing guide in tow, you’re now armed with the knowledge to conquer the shores and have a legendary time off the ship. So set sail with confidence, fellow travelers, and may your adventures be filled with laughter, sunshine, and stories that will have your fellow cruisers green with envy! Bon voyage!

Ah, the burning question of what to wear on a Norwegian Cruise! Fear not, my fellow cruise enthusiasts, for Norwegian Cruise Line has bestowed upon us the glorious gift of “Freestyle Cruising.” It’s like the fashion Olympics, but with fewer judges and more fun!
Picture this: You step aboard the cruise ship, and the dress code is as relaxed as a sloth on a hammock. It’s a “choose-your-own-adventure” for fashion, my friends! Dress up like a movie star or keep it casual like a beach bum – the power is in your hands! Just remember, there are a few rules to follow and some places on the ship where your wildest fashion fantasies might be tamed.
During the day, the dress code is as chill as the polar ice caps (well, not that chill, but you get the idea). Think comfy and casual, like you’re on a “cruise-mode” vacation. But when the sun starts to set, it’s time to put on your thinking cap, fashionably speaking. Depending on where you’re dining, the dress code might be casual or smart casual. And hey, let’s not forget those special theme nights and parties – a chance to unleash your inner fashionista!
Now, don’t go expecting a grand ball with Cinderella’s glass slippers and prince charming in his tuxedo. Oh no, Norwegian Cruise Line has said “no thanks” to the whole formal night shenanigans. So, if you’re dreaming of channeling your inner royalty, you might wanna save that for a Cunard or Princess Cruise where they roll out the red carpet. However, NCL does have what they call “Dress Up Or Not” Night. This is your oportunity to really dress up if you choose and and some people take advantage of this night to have their formal family pictures taken by the ships photographers that are stationed all over the ship. About 50% of the guests dress up on this night.
But hey, if you’re all about that laid-back, “ain’t nobody got time for strict dress codes” kind of vacation, then Norwegian is your jam! No judgments here, my friends – just fun, sun, and all the buffet food you can eat. And when you head indoors, even to munch on some delicious buffet treats, remember to throw on a cover-up over your bathing suit. We don’t want any fashion faux pas, right?
When it’s dinner time at the main dining room or one of those swanky specialty restaurants, it’s time to get your “smart casual” on! Ladies, bring out those fabulous dresses, skirts, capri pants, and jeans – and don’t forget a light shawl or sweater to battle the ship’s overenthusiastic air conditioning. Gents, think jeans or khakis paired with a snazzy polo-style or short-sleeve dress shirt, and please, let’s keep those feet cozy in closed-toe shoes. Sorry, flip flops, you’ll have to sit this one out!
But wait, there’s more! The buffet and casual restaurants are where you can let your fashion hair down and let loose. Ladies, casual dresses, skirts, shorts, t-shirts, capri pants, and jeans are all welcome here. Fellas, feel free to strut your stuff in casual pants, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, or those classic polo shirts. And if you’re hitting up the buffet or an outdoor restaurant, don’t forget to cover up that swimsuit with a stylish cover-up. Sandals and flip flops are totally cool here – no judgment zone, remember?
Oh, and brace yourselves for the theme parties, my fashion-forward friends! You can totally dress up and dazzle the decks on Norwegian cruises. “Norwegian Night Out” is your chance to sparkle like a disco ball or sashay like a runway model. No judgment if you prefer sweatpants and a hoodie, but seriously, where’s the fun in that? You may want to bring an all white outfit if you plan to attend the “White Night” Glow Dance Party. Let your inner diva shine, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll end up looking like a cruise style icon.
So, there you have it, my fellow fashion adventurers! Norwegian Cruise Line welcomes you to the land of “Freestyle Cruising” where fashion rules are more like gentle suggestions. Embrace the casual, the smart casual, the funky, and the fabulous. It’s your vacation, and you should wear whatever makes you feel like a million bucks (or at least a few hundred bucks). Bon voyage and may your fashion choices be as unforgettable as the memories you’ll create on the high seas!
Side Note: No cut off jeans or ripped, cut up T-shirts. Thats not cruise casual. You can never go wrong with a sun dress for the women and kahki pants with a polo shirt for the men.

Going on a cruise is an exciting adventure, filled with relaxation, exploration, and fun. However, one aspect that can sometimes cause uncertainty is the arrival time of your luggage to your stateroom. After all, nobody wants to be left without their essentials during those crucial first hours onboard. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the typical timeline for luggage delivery on a cruise and offer some useful tips to ensure you have everything you need for a smooth embarkation.
How Long Does It Take?
The burning question for many cruisers is, “How long does it take for my luggage to reach my stateroom?” The general answer is that it usually takes a few hours from the time you board the ship. Sometimes, even after the ship has set sail and you have had dinner. This time frame can vary depending on several factors, such as the size of the ship, the number of passengers, and the efficiency of the crew.
Upon arriving at the cruise terminal, you’ll check in and drop off your checked luggage. These bags will be collected and transported by the ship’s staff to your stateroom. In the meantime, you’ll have your carry-on luggage with you, containing essentials and any items you might need for the first night, including dinner attire.
Why Does It Take Time?
The process of delivering luggage to thousands of staterooms on a large cruise ship is a logistical challenge. Crew members have to manage an enormous number of bags, sort them, and then distribute them to the correct rooms. Additionally, they need to comply with security protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.
Factors Affecting Delivery Time
Several factors can impact the delivery time of your luggage:
1. Ship Size: Larger ships with more cabins may require more time to deliver luggage to each stateroom.
2. Boarding Time: If you board the ship early in the day, your luggage might not be delivered until later as the crew needs time to handle all the bags efficiently.
3. Security Clearance: Security procedures play a vital role in the luggage delivery process. Any delays in the security check can influence the overall delivery time.
4. Port of Embarkation: Different cruise ports have their own procedures and efficiency levels, which can impact luggage delivery.
Tips for a Smooth Experience
1. Pack Essentials in Carry-on: To avoid any inconvenience, pack your carry-on bag with essentials such as medications, toiletries, swimwear, and dinner attire. This way, you’ll have everything you need until your checked luggage arrives.
2. Don’t Forget Travel Documents: Keep your passport, ID, cruise tickets, and any other important documents in your carry-on, ensuring easy access during boarding.
3. Be Patient: Remember that the crew is doing their best to deliver your luggage promptly. Exercise patience and understanding, as delays can occur for various reasons.
4. Consider Luggage Tags: Utilize luggage tags provided by the cruise line to clearly label your bags with your stateroom information. This can help speed up the sorting process.
While the exact time it takes for luggage to reach your stateroom on a cruise can vary, it generally ranges from a few hours after boarding. To ensure a smooth embarkation experience, pack your carry-on wisely and prepare for any potential delays. Keep in mind that cruise vacations are meant to be stress-free, so relax, be patient, and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey on the high seas. Happy cruising

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting prospect for many travelers. The promise of picturesque views, unforgettable experiences, and a chance to explore new destinations entices countless vacationers to set sail on the open seas. However, for some unfortunate individuals, the enjoyment of a cruise can be marred by the unwelcome companion known as motion sickness. While we are not medical professionals and cannot provide medical advice, we have gathered some tips from fellow travelers to help mitigate the effects of motion sickness during your cruise.
Understanding Motion Sickness
Motion sickness, also known as seasickness when experienced on a boat or cruise ship, is caused by a disconnect between what your eyes see and what your inner ears (vestibular system) sense in terms of motion. This sensory incongruity can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and general discomfort. It’s essential to note that not everyone experiences motion sickness, and its severity can vary from person to person.
Modern Ships and Stabilizers
One fortunate aspect for those prone to motion sickness is that modern cruise ships are designed with advanced stabilizing technology. These stabilizers help minimize the rocking and swaying motion of the ship, providing a smoother sailing experience for passengers. While these stabilizers cannot completely eliminate all motion, they significantly reduce its impact, making it easier for many travelers to cope with potential motion sickness.
Tips to Help Combat Motion Sickness
1. Choose Your Cabin Wisely: If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin in the middle of the ship and on a lower deck. This location tends to experience less motion compared to cabins near the front or back of the ship.
2. Medications: Over-the-counter motion sickness medications or prescription drugs, such as scopolamine patches or meclizine, may help alleviate symptoms for some individuals. However, it’s essential to consult with your healthcare provider before taking any medication.
3. Acupressure Bands: Some travelers find relief using acupressure bands, which apply pressure to specific points on the wrists thought to reduce nausea.
4. Fresh Air and Horizon Gazing: Stepping out onto the deck and focusing on the horizon can help reorient your senses and reduce feelings of motion sickness.
5. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid heavy or greasy foods that can exacerbate nausea.
6. Ginger: Ginger has natural anti-nausea properties and can be consumed in various forms, such as ginger candies, ginger tea, or ginger supplements. Many people find it helpful in reducing motion sickness symptoms.
7. Mindfulness Techniques: Practicing deep breathing, meditation, or other mindfulness exercises may help manage feelings of nausea and discomfort.
Seek Professional Advice
While these tips may prove helpful for some individuals, it’s crucial to remember that everyone is different. If you experience severe or persistent motion sickness symptoms, it is highly recommended to seek the advice of your healthcare provider or caregiver. They can offer personalized guidance and may suggest alternative remedies or medications tailored to your specific needs.
Conclusion
Motion sickness should not deter you from experiencing the joy of a cruise vacation. While some travelers might encounter this challenge, there are several methods and remedies available that have worked for others in managing motion sickness symptoms. Additionally, the inclusion of stabilizers on modern cruise ships has significantly improved the overall sailing experience. Remember, your health and comfort come first, so seeking the guidance of medical professionals ensures you can embark on your cruise journey with peace of mind and confidence. Bon voyage!

Avast, ye scallywags and deck-swabbers! Gather ’round and heave to as I spill the beans on some nautical jabber that’ll have ye grinnin’ like a shark with a mouthful of booty. If ye be lookin’ to hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail, ye best be learnin’ these shipshape terms, arrr!
Aft – Ahoy there, matey! That be the stern’s swanky cousin, hangin’ out near the back of the ship like a proper party crasher.
Atrium – Aye, the grand chamber of the ship where the ceilings be taller than the tallest mast, and the fancy folk strut their stuff like peacocks on parade.
Berth – Aye, a cozy nook fit for a pirate prince or a buccaneer princess. ‘Tis where ye lay yer weary bones for some shut-eye, savvy?
Bow – Picture this, me hearties – the bow be the ship’s pointy end, where ye can pretend to be king of the world or just enjoy the salty breeze mussin’ up yer hair.
Bridge – Avast ye, landlubbers! The bridge be the ship’s command central, where the captain and crew plot a course that even a parrot would envy.
Captain – The big kahuna, the head honcho, the one who calls the shots and steers the ship away from danger – unless there be a treasure map, of course!
Deck Plan – Aye, me matey, it be like a treasure map for the ship itself – showin’ ye where to find the best loot, er, cabins, and where the swanky soirees be happenin’.
Disembark – When it be time to step off the plank, er, gangway, and set foot on solid land once more. But don’t worry, ye can always come back for more adventure!
Dock – That’s where ye park the ship when it be needin’ a rest from all the high seas antics. Think of it as the ship’s hammock – swingin’ gently in the harbor breeze.
Forward – Hoist the anchor and head to the front, me hearties! That’s where ye’ll find the action, the excitement, and the first dibs on the loot, arrr!
Gangway – Me hearties, this be yer golden ticket to comin’ aboard or disembarkin’. It’s like the red carpet of the ship – step lively now!
Knot – No, it ain’t what ye be findin’ in yer mate’s hair. ‘Tis a fancy way to measure how fast ye be sailin’. So if ye be goin’ at 10 knots, that’s like racin’ against a school of frenzied swordfish!
Midship – Arrr, smack dab in the middle of the ship be where ye find the heart of the action – like the pirate’s belly of the beast!
Muster – When the call to assemble be shouted across the ship, ye best be droppin’ whatever ye be doin’ and joinin’ yer crewmates for a rollickin’ good time!
Nautical – ‘Tis the way of the sea, me hearties – the salty tales, the wind-whipped hair, and the dance of the waves.
Pier – Aye, ’tis where ye be makin’ landfall, a wooden walkway stretchin’ out like a welcoming hug from the shore.
Port – Ahoy there, mateys! That be the left side of the ship, ’cause it be the side that’s, well, not starboard. And why “port”? ‘Cause that be where the good times dock, savvy?
Port of Call – These be the treasure troves along yer journey – the spots where ye can make landfall and find all manner of exotic wares and wild adventures!
Purser – This be the swashbuckler in charge of the ship’s booty – the coin, the doubloons, the loot that keeps the crew happy and the sails billowin’.
Ship – Now, let’s get this straight, me hearties – ye ain’t cruisin’ on a measly “boat.” Ye be ridin’ the high seas aboard a majestic ship, the kind that’d make Blackbeard himself tip his hat in respect!
Starboard – To the right, to the right, me mateys! When ye be facin’ the bow, that be the side where the stars be alignin’ themselves for yer next grand adventure.
Stateroom – Aye, this be yer own private hideaway, where ye can rest yer weary bones after a day of swashbucklin’. Think of it as yer personal treasure chest, complete with a built-in bed fit for a pirate king!
Stateroom Steward – The keeper of the keys, the guardian of the staterooms, the one who keeps things spick and span so ye can focus on pillaging the buffet.
Stern – The very back of the ship, where ye can gaze out at the wake ye be leavin’ behind and ponder the mysteries of the deep, arrr.
Tender – Not a lovin’ heart, me hearties, but a small vessel that ferries ye to and fro from the ship to the shore. Just think of it as the ship’s trusty steed for those short jaunts.
Windward – The side of the ship where the wind be blowin’ from, like a mischievous spirit playin’ tricks with yer sails. So if ye be wantin’ a good breeze in yer hair, that’s the side to be on!
So there ye have it, me hearties – a bellyful of pirate talk to get ye ready for the high seas! May yer adventures be wild, yer rum be strong, and yer compass always point toward grand escapades. Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum – let’s set sail for fun and laughter, arrr!

In this blog post, we’ll delve into the rules surrounding luggage allowances on cruises, especially concerning personal luggage, and provide some insights on how to navigate these limits while making the most of your voyage.
Cruise Luggage Allowances: The Basics
Cruise lines typically have guidelines for how much luggage each passenger can bring onboard. Most cruise lines allow passengers to bring up to two pieces of personal luggage per person, each weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. This is to ensure that cabins and common areas are comfortable and safe for everyone onboard.
Air Travel and Luggage Considerations
While cruise lines have specific luggage policies, the situation becomes a bit trickier when air travel is involved. Airlines often have their own luggage restrictions, which can vary based on factors like the airline’s policies, your ticket type, and the destination. As you rightly pointed out, it’s crucial to check with the airline you’re flying with to ensure you’re within their weight and size limits for checked baggage.
It’s worth mentioning that cruise lines like Norwegian Cruise Line might not weigh your bags before boarding, but that’s no reason to disregard airline rules. If you’re planning to fly before or after your cruise, be sure to adhere to the airline’s baggage requirements to avoid any unnecessary surprises or fees.
The Practical Reality of Cruise Luggage
It is important to strike a balance between packing everything you need and being mindful of the space in your cabin. Cruise lines understand that passengers have varying needs, but they do ask that you consider the practicality of the room stewards handling your luggage.
While the cruise line might not have strict weight limits, using common sense and considering the comfort of fellow passengers and crew is essential. This is why the cruise line says 50 pounds for each bag. Staying mindful of the stewardship team’s workload and being considerate in your packing choices can help ensure a smoother experience for everyone.
Tips for Packing Smart and Light
1. Prioritize Essentials: Identify what you truly need for the cruise and events. Pack outfits that can be mixed and matched, minimizing the number of clothes you bring.
2. Check the Weather: Research the weather conditions at your cruise destinations and pack accordingly. This can help you avoid overpacking unnecessary items.
3. Roll Instead of Fold: Rolling clothes instead of folding can help save space and prevent wrinkles.
4. Limit Shoes: Shoes can take up a significant amount of space. Bring versatile footwear that can be worn with multiple outfits.
5. Toiletries Consideration: Many cruise lines provide basic toiletries, so you might not need to pack everything. Consider travel-sized items or sharing larger ones with your travel companions.
6.
Cruise adventures offer a blend of relaxation and exploration, and efficient packing is a key element in ensuring a stress-free journey. While it’s true that cruise lines like Norwegian Cruise Line might not weigh your bags, it’s always a good idea to adhere to their luggage policies and consider the practicality of your choices. By packing thoughtfully and adhering to airline rules, you can enjoy your cruise with peace of mind, knowing that you’re prepared for a wonderful voyage.

When it comes to transportation options from the airport to your cruise ship terminal, there are various choices to consider. Among these options, Uber and cruise ship airport shuttles stand out as convenient and popular choices. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the comparison between Uber and cruise ship airport shuttles, focusing on cost-effectiveness for groups of three or more travelers.
Uber: The Modern Convenience
Uber has revolutionized the way we think about transportation. With its user-friendly app, riders can easily request a ride and have a driver arrive at their location within minutes. The convenience of Uber lies in its flexibility, ease of use, and personalization. Passengers can enjoy a direct route from the airport to their cruise ship terminal, without having to share the ride with strangers.
Cost Considerations with Uber
For groups of three or more people, Uber can often be a cost-effective option. The fare is calculated based on distance and time, making it easier to estimate costs in advance. When divided among multiple passengers, the overall cost per person can be quite reasonable, especially if the cruise ship terminal is not too far from the airport.
Pros of Using Uber:
1. Direct Transportation: Uber provides a direct and personalized route from the airport to the cruise ship terminal.
2. Flexible Schedule: You can request an Uber at your convenience, which is great for travelers with varying arrival times.
3. Cost Sharing: Dividing the fare among group members can result in a budget-friendly option.
4.
Cruise Ship Airport Shuttles: A Group-Friendly Option
Cruise ship airport shuttles are another popular transportation choice, especially for travelers embarking on cruise vacations. These shuttles are often arranged by the cruise line and offer a hassle-free way to reach the ship terminal. While they might not offer the same level of personalization as Uber, they come with their own set of advantages.
Cost Considerations with Cruise Ship Shuttles
Cruise ship airport shuttles are generally designed to accommodate groups of passengers. The fixed fare is typically shared among all passengers on board, making it a cost-effective choice for larger groups. However, it’s important to consider that the shuttle might make multiple stops to accommodate passengers from different flights, potentially increasing travel time.
Pros of Using Cruise Ship Shuttles:
1. Group Savings: Shuttles are often more cost-effective for larger groups, as the fare is divided among multiple passengers.
2. Convenience: Cruise ship shuttles are organized by the cruise line, ensuring a seamless transfer from the airport to the terminal.
3. Cruise Line Coordination: Shuttles are integrated into the cruise itinerary, minimizing the risk of travel-related delays.
Conclusion
Ultimately, when comparing Uber and cruise ship airport shuttles for groups of three or more, the decision depends on various factors. Uber offers personalized and direct transportation, which can be budget-friendly when shared among passengers. On the other hand, cruise ship shuttles provide a group-friendly option with the convenience of being organized by the cruise line. It’s essential to consider travel time, cost-sharing, and personal preferences when making your decision.
Before making a choice, it’s a good idea to research the specific rates and options available at your departure port. Whichever option you choose, both Uber and cruise ship airport shuttles aim to provide a smooth transition from the airport to your cruise ship vacation, allowing you to start your journey on the right foot.

Imagine basking in the glorious sun, surrounded by the boundless expanse of the ocean, as your cruise ship glides through the waves. The ambiance is serene, the mood joyous – a perfect vacation on the high seas. But amid this idyllic setting, one cannot disregard the importance of preparedness for the unexpected, especially when it comes to medical emergencies onboard a cruise ship.
Smooth Sailing or Stormy Seas? Cruise vacations are renowned for their luxury, entertainment, and relaxation. However, being far from land, and often remote from immediate medical assistance, necessitates a well-organized approach to dealing with medical crises. From minor injuries to more critical conditions, cruise ships must be equipped to handle a wide range of medical emergencies.
Setting the Medical Stage Modern cruise ships are equipped with onboard medical facilities staffed by qualified medical professionals. These professionals are prepared to handle various medical situations, from seasickness and sunburn to more serious incidents like fractures, heart attacks, or even childbirth. These medical centers are often equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, enabling timely diagnosis and treatment.
Crew Training and Readiness A crucial component of ensuring passenger safety during a medical emergency is a well-trained crew. Cruise ship staff members are trained to respond swiftly and effectively in emergencies, including providing CPR, basic first aid, and managing crowd control. Regular drills and training sessions help keep the crew ready to respond, even in high-pressure situations.
Telemedicine in the Deep Blue While modern medical facilities can provide a certain level of care, there are instances when more specialized medical attention is needed. Many cruise ships now offer telemedicine services, allowing onboard medical staff to consult with specialists on land. This technology bridges the gap between the ship and the necessary medical expertise, providing a higher level of care when required.
Safety Measures for Passengers Passenger safety is a top priority for cruise lines. During embarkation, passengers are often briefed on safety procedures, including information about the onboard medical facilities and how to access them in case of an emergency. It’s important for passengers to familiarize themselves with these procedures and to inform the crew of any pre-existing medical conditions that could require attention during the voyage.
Planning for the Unexpected While cruise ships take every possible measure to prevent and manage medical emergencies, travelers should also take personal responsibility for their health and safety. This includes packing necessary medications, adhering to dietary restrictions, and following safety guidelines on the ship. Adequate travel insurance that covers medical emergencies can also provide peace of mind.
The Compassionate Response In times of medical crisis, the emotional support provided by the cruise staff is invaluable. The compassionate care offered by medical professionals and crew members helps alleviate anxiety and provides reassurance to both the patient and their companions.
Charting a Safe Course While the chances of a medical emergency during a cruise vacation are relatively low, it’s essential to be prepared for any eventuality. Being aware of onboard medical facilities, crew training, and safety procedures empowers travelers to embark on their voyage with confidence. With proper planning, advanced medical technology, and a skilled crew, cruise ships can navigate medical emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers on board.
So, as you set sail on your next cruise adventure, remember that while the vast ocean may seem endless, the commitment to passenger safety is boundless. A cruise is not just about the destination; it’s also about the journey and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re in capable hands, even when the waters get a little rough

Why Coral Reefs Matter
Coral reefs are some of the most vibrant and biodiverse ecosystems on our planet. They are often called the “rainforests of the sea” due to their incredible biodiversity and the vital roles they play in marine ecosystems. Coral reefs provide habitat and food for countless marine species, protect coastlines from erosion, and support local economies through tourism and fisheries.
However, coral reefs are facing numerous threats, including climate change, pollution, overfishing, and physical damage. As cruise enthusiasts, it’s our responsibility to minimize our impact on these fragile ecosystems.
The Sunscreen Conundrum
One seemingly innocent product that can harm coral reefs is sunscreen. Many sunscreens contain chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which have been shown to be harmful to coral reefs. When swimmers and snorkelers wear sunscreen and enter the water, these chemicals can wash off their bodies and end up in the ocean.
Research has shown that even small amounts of these chemicals can have detrimental effects on coral health. They can disrupt the coral’s reproduction and growth, making them more vulnerable to disease and bleaching events.
Choosing Reef-Safe Sunscreen
The good news is that you can still protect yourself from the sun while being eco-conscious. Opt for reef-safe sunscreens that are free from oxybenzone and octinoxate. Instead, look for mineral-based sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the active ingredients. These sunscreens provide excellent protection without harming coral reefs.
Remember to apply your sunscreen at least 15 minutes before entering the water, as it needs time to bond with your skin and be effective. Reapply as needed, especially after swimming or sweating.
Additional Tips for Eco-Friendly Cruising
1. Limit your use of single-use plastics: Cruise ships used to generate a significant amount of plastic waste. Not so much anymore. Bring your reusable water bottle, straw, and shopping bag to minimize your plastic footprint.
2. Participate in eco-friendly excursions: Choose tour operators and excursions that prioritize sustainability and responsible tourism practices, such as snorkeling trips that educate participants about coral reefs and their conservation.
3. Respect local wildlife: While snorkeling or diving, maintain a respectful distance from marine life and refrain from touching or disturbing the coral and animals. Follow all guidelines set by your tour operators or local authorities.
4. Dispose of waste properly: On your cruise ship, follow proper waste disposal procedures, especially when it comes to items like batteries and electronic devices that can harm the environment if not disposed of correctly.
In conclusion, your cruise can be an unforgettable experience while also being mindful of the environment. By choosing reef-safe sunscreen and following eco-friendly practices, you can help protect the delicate coral reefs and marine life you encounter during your journey. Let’s cruise responsibly and ensure these incredible ecosystems remain intact for generations to come.

Ah, embarkation day! The excitement is palpable as you set foot on your cruise ship, ready to embark on a journey of sun, sea, and endless buffets. You’ve got your sunscreen, your swimsuit, and your best “vacation mode” attitude ready to roll. But wait, what’s this? You’ve just stepped into your cabin, and there it is, lurking inside your mini-fridge: a tempting array of overpriced beverages that aren’t included in your drink package. Oh, the agony!
Before you give in to the temptation of that $5 bottle of water, let me share a funny and thrifty strategy with you. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
Step 1: The Fridge Standoff
You’re staring at your mini-fridge, and it’s staring right back at you. Those perfectly chilled drinks are just begging for your attention, but the price tags are downright shocking. You could probably buy a small island for the amount they charge for a can of soda. And don’t get me started on that bottle of fancy mineral water. It’s more expensive than a gallon of gas in some countries!
Step 2: The In-Room Picnic Dream
The wheels in your head start turning as you realize you don’t have to be a victim of overpriced refreshments. You’ve got a secret weapon: your room steward. With a friendly smile and a kind request, you can ask your room steward to empty that fridge of its outrageously priced contents. Room stewards are the unsung heroes of cruise ships and will happily oblige. What’s more, this clears up valuable fridge space for the true stars of the show: your supper leftovers!
Step 3: Turning Leftovers into Your Cruise BFFs
Now, you’re probably wondering, “What am I going to do with all that leftover food?” Fear not, because this is where the real fun begins. Instead of splurging on overpriced beverages, why not create your very own in-room picnic? Your fridge is now an empty canvas, ready to be filled with the treasures from the dining room. Extra slices of pizza, leftover dessert, and maybe even a cheeky sandwich or two – the possibilities are endless!
Step 4: The Supper Afterparty
As you sit in your cabin, enjoying your in-room picnic, you’ll soon realize that this is the life! While your fellow cruisers are forking out small fortunes for their fridge drinks, you’re relishing in your leftovers. Plus, you’re sticking it to the man (or cruise line, in this case) by avoiding the price gouging. It’s a win-win!
In conclusion, embarkation day is all about making the right choices. Instead of succumbing to the siren call of overpriced mini-fridge beverages, outsmart the system. Clear out your fridge and make room for delicious supper leftovers that you can enjoy guilt-free. You’ll save money, have a good laugh, and savor your cruise even more. So, cruise on, savvy traveler, and embark on your journey with a smile and a full belly – the fridge drinks can wait!

While shore excursions are a popular choice for many cruise-goers, there are plenty of enticing activities to enjoy if you decide to stay onboard during port days. In this blog post, we’ll explore a variety of options for making the most of your time on the cruise ship while others explore the port.
1. Enjoy a Quiet Pool Day: One of the advantages of staying onboard during port days is having access to less crowded pool areas. Grab a book, your favorite drink, and find a comfortable spot by the pool to soak up the sun and relax in a serene atmosphere.
2. Indulge in Spa Treatments: Treat yourself to a day of pampering at the ship’s spa. Many cruise ships offer special discounts on spa services during port days, providing the perfect opportunity for a massage, facial, or other rejuvenating treatments.
3. Participate in Onboard Activities: Cruise ships are equipped with a plethora of onboard activities. Whether it’s trivia, dance classes, or art auctions, port days offer a chance to engage in these activities without the usual crowds. Check the daily schedule for a list of events and take advantage of the ship’s amenities.
4. Explore Culinary Delights: Take this opportunity to savor the ship’s diverse culinary offerings. Specialty restaurants, cooking classes, and themed dinners are often available. Use the port day to indulge in a leisurely dining experience, trying out different cuisines and enjoying the ship’s gourmet options.

Take advantage of these opportunities to learn something new, whether it’s a cooking demonstration, language class, or a talk about the history and culture of upcoming ports.

While shore excursions offer incredible opportunities to explore new destinations, choosing to stay onboard during port days can be a rewarding experience. Whether you opt for relaxation by the pool, indulging in spa treatments, or exploring onboard activities, cruise ships provide a multitude of options to ensure your days at sea are just as enjoyable as your time ashore.
So, whether you’re seeking serenity or excitement, make the most of your cruise vacation by embracing the unique offerings available on the ship itself.

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting adventure filled with new experiences, breathtaking views, and memories that last a lifetime. However, one aspect that can quickly turn the tide on your cruise enjoyment is the challenge of keeping your cabin organized. Enter the unsung hero of cruise ship organization – the mesh over-the-door shoe hanger. While its name suggests a specific purpose, this versatile storage solution can be a game-changer in keeping your cruise cabin tidy and maximizing your space.
In this post, we’ll explore the benefits of using a mesh over-the-door shoe hanger and how it can go beyond its intended purpose.
1. Optimizing Limited Space: Cruise cabins are notoriously compact, and finding sufficient storage space can be a real puzzle. A mesh over-the-door shoe hanger provides an ingenious solution by utilizing the often-overlooked space behind the cabin door. With multiple pockets, you can keep your shoes neatly tucked away, freeing up valuable floor space for other essentials.
2. Versatility Beyond Shoes: While the primary purpose of this organizer is to store shoes, its pockets are perfect for a variety of items beyond footwear. Use them to store toiletries, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, or even small electronic devices. The transparent mesh pockets make it easy to see and access your belongings, ensuring you can grab what you need without rummaging through your luggage.
3. Easy Accessibility: One of the main advantages of using a mesh over-the-door shoe hanger is the ease of access. Instead of digging through suitcases or cluttering up limited shelf space, your essentials are right at your fingertips. This is particularly convenient for items you might need on a daily basis, such as sunscreen, hand sanitizer, or a quick snack.
4. Keep Your Cabin Clutter-Free: Maintaining a clutter-free environment is crucial for a comfortable and enjoyable cruise experience. The mesh over-the-door shoe hanger helps you stay organized by preventing items from accumulating on surfaces or the cabin floor. By designating specific pockets for different items, you’ll always know where to find what you need.
5. Create Extra Storage for Souvenirs: Cruises often involve collecting souvenirs and mementos from various ports of call. Instead of letting your cabin become overrun with bags and trinkets, use the mesh hanger to create extra storage for your newfound treasures. This way, you can keep your souvenirs organized and prevent them from taking over your cabin space.
A cruise is meant to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and maintaining a tidy cabin can significantly contribute to that enjoyment. The mesh over-the-door shoe hanger is a simple yet effective tool to help you make the most of your limited space and keep your belongings organized. Its versatility extends far beyond shoes, offering a practical and accessible solution to cabin clutter.
So, when you embark on your next cruise, consider bringing along this unassuming hero and unlock the full potential of your cabin space. Happy sailing

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting adventure filled with sun-soaked days, exotic ports of call, and a plethora of onboard activities. To make the most of your cruise experience, there’s one simple yet ingenious hack that can elevate your journey: bring a highlighter! Yes, you read that right. In this article, we’ll explore how cruisers can use a highlighter to enhance their onboard experience and create a personalized itinerary for the whole family.
The Magic of the Daily Schedule:
One of the perks of cruising is the abundance of activities available on the ship. From entertainment shows and fitness classes to culinary events and shore excursions, cruise lines provide a detailed daily schedule of events. These schedules are often delivered to your room the night before, giving you a preview of the next day’s offerings.
The Highlighter Hack:
Imagine having a visual roadmap of your daily activities, color-coded and tailored to each family member’s preferences. That’s where the highlighter comes in. By bringing a set of different colored highlighters on your cruise, you can create a customized itinerary that ensures everyone gets to enjoy their preferred activities.
How to Do It:
Assign Colors for Each Family Member:
1. Before you embark on your cruise, decide on a color for each family member. This could be based on personal preferences or simply a random assignment. For example, Dad could be blue, Mom could be pink, and the kids could each have their distinct color.
2. Review the Daily Schedule: Each evening, take a few minutes to review the daily schedule of events for the next day. The cruise line typically provides a comprehensive breakdown of activities, times, and locations.
3. Highlight Away: Armed with your highlighters, start marking the activities you’re interested in. Use the assigned colors for each family member to differentiate between preferences. If Dad is a fitness enthusiast, he might want to highlight the morning yoga class in blue, while Mom might be interested in the afternoon spa seminar, highlighted in pink.
4. Create a Master Itinerary: As you go through the schedule, you’ll end up with a rainbow of highlighted events. Take a moment to consolidate these into a master itinerary. This can be done on a separate sheet of paper or directly on the schedule itself, providing a quick glance at the day’s planned activities for each family member.
Benefits of the Highlighter Hack:
1. Efficiency: With a color-coded itinerary, everyone in the family can quickly identify their scheduled activities without having to sift through the entire daily schedule.
2. Personalization: The highlighter hack allows each family member to tailor their cruise experience to their interests. Whether it’s sports, entertainment, or relaxation, everyone can find their niche.
3. Flexibility: While it’s great to have a plan, the beauty of cruising is also about spontaneity. If new opportunities arise, you can easily adjust your schedule, knowing that the color-coded framework is flexible.
In the world of cruise hacks, the humble highlighter emerges as an unsung hero, turning the daily schedule into a personalized roadmap for an unforgettable vacation.
So, the next time you set sail, don’t forget to pack those vibrant markers and embark on a journey filled with color-coded excitement and family fun

Your cruise experience’s success on the first day is in your hands. While some factors are beyond your control, steering clear of these ten common mistakes on your cruise’s boarding day will empower you to take charge and ensure a smooth embarkation day.
1. Last-Minute Flights: Flying in on the day of your cruise is a significant blunder. Recent changes in cruise travel and flight reliability issues advise seasoned cruisers to arrive one or two days before sailing, especially in winter. Book a hotel, take an extra day off, and avoid one of the most critical boarding day cruise mistakes.
2. Missing Documents: Don’t arrive at the terminal without printed luggage tags and boarding documents. While some cruise lines provide boarding docs in their apps, printing luggage tags is still necessary. Staple them after your flight or use protective covers to prevent damage.
3. Early Cabin Arrival: Resist the temptation to rush to your stateroom upon boarding. Your cabin is likely still being cleaned; wait for announcements indicating its readiness, typically between 1 pm to 1:30 pm.
4. Buffet Rush: Avoid the crowded boarding day buffet rush. Explore alternative lunch options listed in the daily newsletter on your app for a more relaxed dining experience.
5. Delayed Luggage Expectations: Don’t anticipate your suitcases in your room right away; they might take a few hours. Keep essentials in a small embarkation day bag, such as boarding documents, passports, wallets, sunglasses, and medications.
6. Prohibited Items Oversight: Check your cruise line’s prohibited items list to avoid packing forbidden items like torch lighters, illegal drugs, weapons, or toy weapons. It speeds up the boarding process and prevents embarrassment.
7. Early Arrival: Pay attention to your assigned boarding time. Cruise lines aim to manage crowds, so arriving at the designated time will save you frustration.
8. Skipping Safety Drill: Don’t skip the safety drill or wait until the last minute. While most cruise lines have streamlined muster drills, completing safety requirements early ensures you can focus on the fun.
9. Missing Day-One Events: Attend special day-one events like spa tours and maître d’ “office hours” to confirm dining arrangements or explore the spa before it gets busy.
10. Neglecting Reservations: Booking reservations for shows, restaurants, and spa times on day one or before your cruise is crucial. With limited availability, reservations can sell out, so invest time in planning ahead.
Steer clear of these common boarding day cruise mistakes to enhance your embarkation day experience.

If you’re traveling within three decks, opt for the stairs for a quicker journey. While the idea of using stairs during a vacation may seem like an effort, it’s often a more efficient choice. Cruise ship elevators can experience congestion with a large number of passengers, stopping at every deck in both directions. This results in a potentially lengthy wait for the elevator to arrive at your floor.
Choosing the stairs for a short ascent or descent of a few decks proves to be a more convenient and faster alternative. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to burn off some of those indulgent “cruise calories” accumulated from enjoying plentiful meals on board.

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting adventure, but when it comes to spending money while on board, it’s essential to be informed and prepared. One of the great conveniences for cruise passengers is that American dollars are widely accepted in Caribbean cruise ports. This means you don’t need to worry about exchanging currencies or having the local pesos on hand – American dollars are not only accepted but often preferred.
When exploring the various ports of call on your cruise, having American dollars can be a game-changer. It eliminates the hassle of dealing with different currencies at each stop, making transactions smoother and more convenient. While credit cards are also widely accepted in many places, it’s recommended to carry cash for most transactions.
Credit cards may be convenient, especially in touristy areas of port cities, but opting for cash can add an extra layer of security to your financial transactions. Using cash reduces the risk of potential card-related issues and ensures a seamless experience throughout your cruise. However, if you choose to use your credit card, it’s crucial to take a proactive step and call your credit card company beforehand.
Yes, credit cards are accepted in ports, but calling your credit card company before your cruise is a smart move. Using your card in multiple ports within a short time frame may trigger fraud alerts, leading to a temporary freeze on your account for security reasons. By informing your credit card company about your travel plans, you can prevent any disruptions to your financial transactions and enjoy a worry-free cruise experience.
In conclusion, whether you opt for cash or credit cards, being aware of the financial dynamics during your cruise is key. American dollars are your reliable companions in most Caribbean cruise ports, offering you the flexibility to enjoy your journey without the burden of managing multiple currencies. So, set sail with confidence, knowing that your finances are well-prepared for the adventures that await you at every port of call.

This tip is similar to tip #35 where we talked about finances in foreign ports but it’s crucial not to overlook a small yet significant detail – notifying your bank about your travel plans. Many financial institutions offer convenient ways to inform them of your journey, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience. In this blog post, we’ll explore the reasons why you should contact your bank before traveling and how some banks have simplified the process through their mobile apps.
Fraud Prevention:
One of the primary reasons to notify your bank before traveling is to protect yourself from potential fraud. Banks use sophisticated algorithms to detect unusual or suspicious transactions. If your bank suddenly sees transactions from a foreign country without any prior notice, it might flag your account for suspicious activity, leading to unnecessary complications and, in some cases, even freezing your card. By informing your bank about your travel plans, you reduce the risk of false alarms and ensure that your transactions are smooth and secure.
Avoiding Inconvenience:
Imagine being in a foreign country, ready to explore, only to find out that your debit or credit card has been blocked due to suspicious activity. Notifying your bank in advance helps you avoid such inconveniences. It allows your bank to update its systems, making it aware that you are in a different location and that the transactions from that region are legitimate. This simple step can save you from the hassle of dealing with a blocked card, leaving you free to focus on enjoying your trip.
Access to Funds:
While many countries now widely accept credit and debit cards, it’s essential to ensure that your cards will work seamlessly abroad. By informing your bank, you can prevent any issues that may arise due to unfamiliar transactions, ensuring uninterrupted access to your funds. Some banks also provide valuable information about international transaction fees, so you can plan your expenses accordingly.
Convenient Mobile App Notifications:
In the digital age, convenience is key. Recognizing the importance of hassle-free banking during travel, some financial institutions have incorporated features into their mobile apps that allow customers to notify the bank of their travel plans. With just a few taps on your smartphone, you can inform your bank about your destination and travel dates, providing instant updates to enhance the security of your financial transactions.
Steps to Notify Your Bank Through Mobile Apps:
If your bank offers the option to notify them through their mobile app, the process is typically straightforward. Open the app, navigate to the settings or security section, and look for the travel notification feature. Enter the required details, such as your destination and travel dates, and submit the information. Some banks may also allow you to set preferences for specific countries, making the process even more customizable.
Before you embark on your international journey, take a moment to notify your bank about your travel plans. Whether you’re exploring the bustling streets of Tokyo, savoring pasta in Rome, or relaxing on a beach in Bali, ensuring that your bank is aware of your whereabouts can make a significant difference in your financial peace of mind. With the convenience of mobile apps, the process has never been easier, allowing you to focus on creating cherished memories without worrying about potential banking hiccups. Safe travels!

Hey there, fellow cruisers!
Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable journey through towering glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and wildlife sightings that’ll make your jaw drop faster than a calving iceberg? Before you bundle up and sail north, we’ve got some glacier-sized pearls of wisdom to help you make the most of your Alaskan adventure. So zip up that parka, grab your binoculars, and let’s mush on in!
Don’t Pack an Uptight Attitude:
Picture this: you’re standing on deck, hot cocoa in hand, watching a humpback whale breach against a backdrop of majestic fjords. Pretty incredible, right? But remember—Mother Nature calls the shots in Alaska. Glacier viewing might get rescheduled, or your whale may decide to play hide-and-seek. So leave your uptight attitude dockside and bring your sense of humor (and maybe a few extra layers) instead!
Things Can (and Will) Change:
Ah, Alaskan weather—the ultimate wildcard. One minute it's crisp and sunny, the next you're in a misty drizzle that feels straight out of a movie. Pack like a Boy Scout: raincoat, waterproof shoes, cozy layers. Don’t let a little cold dampen your spirit—embrace the drizzle, splash in a puddle, and remind yourself: you’re cruising through one of the most breathtaking places on Earth!
Sea Conditions in Flux:
The Inside Passage might be calm as a lake—or it might rock you like a glacier calving. If the ship starts swaying, channel your inner lumberjack and steady yourself with pride. It’s all part of the adventure. And hey, that gentle rocking? It's basically nature’s massage chair. No spa appointment required.
Allow for Change:
Alaska cruises often come with route adjustments due to weather, ice, or the occasional curious orca. If your itinerary gets tweaked, don’t sweat it. Sometimes detours lead to charming towns you never expected or surprise wildlife sightings that beat anything on your bucket list. Flexibility is your friend, and in Alaska, it usually comes with bonus bald eagle sightings.
Adventure Awaits:
Whether you’re ziplining over a rainforest in Ketchikan, dogsledding on a glacier, or cheering on salmon in mid-leap, keep your spirit of adventure wide open. Maybe you’ll spontaneously join a lumberjack contest, or maybe a park ranger will tell you a story that sticks with you forever. Say yes to the unexpected—and let your laughter echo through the fjords.
So there you have it, cruise comrades! As you set sail through the Last Frontier, bring your cozy socks, adventurous heart, and a big ol’ dose of flexibility. Let the changing tides (and changing plans) guide you to the stories you’ll tell for years to come.
And hey—when you’re watching a glacier crash into the sea with a thunderous roar, remember to take a deep breath, soak it all in… and maybe save a thermal mug of hot chocolate for your friends back home!
